Welcome To The Bookstore Of Gloucester

The north of Boston region has plenty of good book stores, but there is something a little different about The Bookstore of Gloucester.

More than just a place to buy the latest novel for the past three decades, the Main Street shop has been a kind of watering hole for literature lovers of all stripes, and in particular those of a progressive bent.

The Bookstore features large sections on maritime literature, poetry, fiction, memoirs, and contemporary politics, in addition to a good array of childrenÂ’s books. It also has a periodical section that includes urban-oriented publications that are difficult to find locally outside of Boston. A reading series is offered twice a year for both local and other poets and authors, alike. Sebastion Younger (The Perfect Storm), Joe Garland (Guns over Gloucester), and Mark Kalansky (Cod and Salt) are a few of the most recent.

The Bookstore, located at 61 Main St., is owned and run by Janice Severance, and is open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm, Thursdays till 8 pm, and Sundays 12 to 5 pm. Summer hours are from 9 am to 9 pm, and Sundays 12 to 9 pm. They can be reached at 978 2811548 or at www.gloucesterbooks.com .
